What Does LightShine Believe

1. About the Bible

We believe that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are inspired by God and without error in the original writings, and that they are our supreme and final authority in faith and life. We also believe God’s word is literally applicable for detailed guidance in our modern daily walk and our corporate worship systems.

2. About God

We believe in one God, the Creator, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. That He first loved us and established a perfect plan for our salvation. That He actively pursues us for reconciliation to Him and our daily fellowship with Him. And that He always wants the very best for us.

3. About Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary as the only begotten Son of God. He has always been part of the Holy Trinity and was destined to be the sacrificial lamb - the perfect atonement for mans sins. He is the final judge who will claim His flock and reject those who have rejected Him.

4. About Human Beings

We believe God created Adam and Eve in His image, that they sinned, and thereby incurred not only physical death but also spiritual death. As a result of Adam's sin, everyone is born with a sinful nature which separates us from God. But God loves us so much that He made His Son to die for us so that all may be saved and reconciled to Him.

5. About Salvation

We believe Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice; and that all who believe in Him are justified strictly on the grounds of His shed blood. We believe that all who by faith receive the Lord Jesus Christ are born again of the Holy Spirit and thereby become children of God.

6. About the Resurrection

We believe in the resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord, in His ascension into Heaven, and in His present life there for us, as High Priest and Advocate.

7. About Christ's Return

We believe in the personal and imminent return of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We believe He will first return to remove His bride, the church. He will then return in glory at the battle of Armageddon where He will defeat the powers of darkness and establish His millennial reign on earth. We believe we are living in the end times and that our Lord’s return is very, very near.

8. About the Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit indwells and gives spiritual life to all believers. He enables us to understand Biblical truth, empowers us for godly living, gives spiritual gifts and equips us for service and witness. The Holy Spirit is God’s messenger for drawing the lost to Him and for personally revealing the truth about Jesus to each person. The Holy Spirit is a being in His own right with attributes and qualities of a unique personage, and is the third member of the Holy Trinity. The Holy Spirit convicts, comforts and guides us in our daily walk. He is God in us.

9. About Baptism

We believe Baptism is a symbolic statement to the world that the believer has accepted the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ as the complete atonement for sin and the only sacrifice sufficient to pay the price for the believer’s salvation. Baptism does not save or add value to Christ’s sacrifice. It is strictly an outward sign of acceptance of Christ’s gift, and is done in obedience to His command.

10. The Local Church

It is God's desire for believers to gather together to worship Him and to encourage one another. We believe that the local church is God's vehicle for guiding, encouraging, growing, equipping and disciplining the saints. The local church is also to be a beacon of hope to its community and its members are to be Christ's ambassadors to the world around them.
